Two Creative Ways To Cut The Cord

Are you tired of paying your very expensive cable or satellite bill? If so, you may be looking for ways to cut the cord and save on your monthly television bill. However, that doesn't mean that you want to completely go without some sort of television service in your home. Here are two creative ways to cut the cord from your cable or satellite provider.

Use An Off-Air Antenna With A DVR

Off-air programming has changed a lot over the years where it is not a very viable source of entertainment that is completely free. In the past, you would only be able to receive a handful of local channels from the major networks, but that has changed a lot over the years. Local broadcast networks are able to use their signal how they want, with the ability to offer multiple standard definition channels in addition to high definition programming. In a major city, you can now get dozens of channels from an off-air antenna, making it possible to have an enjoyable TV experience with no recurring monthly fee.

Unfortunately, years of having on-demand programming through your old television provider may have spoiled you. The solution is to purchase a DVR that is designed to work with an off-air antenna. This will feed all of the channels through the set-top box, letting you record programming to a local hard drive. You can play back shows on your schedule and not be bound to the times that live TV typically demands of you.

Use Your Local Library

When was the last time you went to your local library? You may be surprised that they have a wealth of entertainment options that you can check out for free. It is common for libraries to have the latest movie releases in both DVD and Blu-ray, as well as previous seasons of television shows as the box sets are released. You can set up reservations for shows and movies that you want and not have to keep checking the library to see what has been returned.

If you don't mind waiting for the latest season of your favorite show to be over with until you can start viewing it, the library is a practical place to get all of your television shows. It may not be a convenience, but understand that you are already paying for the library with your taxes so you might as well use it.
